Antebellum 28-Star "Texas" Flag. 65" x 46" wool bunting flag. There are 28 appliqued hand-stitched stars on both sides of the canton, in a 6/5/6/5/6 row pattern. This corresponds to the admittance of the 28th state, Texas, on December 29, 1845. That said, the flag was likely manufactured closer to 1860. The balance of the flag is machine-stitched. There is a canvas hoist with 2 brass grommets, which may be a later addition. There are no markings. It is hemmed along the bottom edge and doubled-over/reinforced on the fly.

Condition: Delicate. Strong colors. Overall aging with numerous rips and holes. There is a split or separation that runs horizontally along the length of the central red stripe which could be repaired.
