1762 Benjamin Franklin Pennsylvania Gazette. Four pages, 10" x 15.25", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 14, 1762. This is an original historic newspaper printed by Benjamin Franklin on his famous Philadelphia press. It reads: "Printed by B. Franklin, Post-Master, and D. Hall" on the bottom of the last page. The front page has a large ornate woodcut in the masthead, plus two ads with wonderful shipping vignettes, along with notices of departures for Dublin and "Killibegs and Sligoe". Also a page one story about the "French King's Declaration of War against Portugal" and ads for an escaped slave and for a captured slave. Page two reports on military adventures in Russian and Germany, and displays a notice at the bottom of the page for "the Pocket Almanack for the year 1763". Page three has an excerpt from the London Gazette detailing the death of Peter III of Russia, due to a "Disorder In His Bowels", with commentary on parallels between the late emperor and another "unfortunate" prince, King Edward II. This issue also has a wonderful assortment of notices of rewards, more runaways, legal actions, auctions, public notice for an evening school, and the like, and of course the important "Printed by B. Franklin" legend. The newspaper is in very fine condition. The left edge has been secured with collectors paper and tape, and shows slight soiling and yellowing, with moderate edge wear.
