"Southern Rights" Newspaper Published in Jacksonville, Florida on "Necessity Paper".
8" x 13" single sheet, October 4, 1862 issue of "Southern Rights", printed in Jacksonville, Florida on blue recycled shipping receipt paper. The editor announces a temporary suspension of its weekly publication. He notes: "The taking of our battery after a loss of courage, but no blood, and the presence of the Yankee fleet, and the fearful proximity of Gen. Brennan, render the Southern Rights precarious... Our stock of paper being small, because of the extensive use of that article in making Confederate notes, we are unable to meet the large demand for this week's issue." He also notes the existence of counterfeit Confederate currency and lists some benchmarks for determining authenticity. The last entry is a small display ad offering a $25 reward for the apprehension of a runaway slave named Ned. All known issues are dated October 4, 1862. There are three other examples extant, all in institutional holdings. Several archival repairs, but overall fine considering the poor quality printing and paper. "Property of H. W. Brown" is printed in period ink at the top of the paper.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
