Ensign Map of Texas and Part of Mexico, 1846. A rare and unusual 5.5" x 6.25" map of Texas as it was recognized in 1846 (often referred to as the "Emory conformation"), with borders highlighted in lilac. Published by T. & E. H. Ensign in New York and engraved on heavy clay-coated cardstock, the map is entitled: Map of Texas and Part of Mexico Reduced and Compiled from the Congressional Map and Other Recent Authorities. It features a decorative border and provides extreme detail, identifying rivers, mountains, oceans and gulfs, U.S. and Mexican states, cities and towns, forts, exploration routes, Indian tribes and their enrolled numbers, even the depth of the Gulf of Mexico along underwater passes near shore. Margins show minor soiling and faint wear; generally fine. Very unusual and rarely seen.
