Eighteenth Century Ledger of Coats of Arms. This lovely octavo manuscript book contains approximately 500 pages of beautiful, hand drawn examples of British heraldry. The majority of the coats of arms contained within appear to be produced for the use of the landed gentry or military officers. Located in the latter half are heraldic devices for members of the British nobility, for example, the Earl of Darnley, the Marquis [Marquess] of Winchester, the Earl of Northumberland, the Earl of Strathmore, etc. Also seen are devices for use in the Peerage of Ireland, for instance, the Earl of Kildare and ecclesiastical coats of arms such as the Bishop of Lincoln. The spine broken in several places and the pages show moderate to heavy toning or soiling, but the coats of arms are clear and appear to be unaffected by age. This book is definitely worthy of further research.
