Document Signed of a Court Case, State of Nebraska vs. Joel Collins & Eight Others (Gang) For 1877. In 1876, Bass and Joel Collins drove a small herd of longhorns to Nebraska and earned the princely sum of $8,000, which they squandered in the gambling dens of Ogallala, Nebraska, and Deadwood, South Dakota. After trying their hands at freighting, Bass and Collins turned outlaw. At first unsuccessful at stagecoach robberies, they pulled off a huge heist of a Union Pacific passenger train on September 18, 1877, netting $60,000 (shared amongst the six gang members) in newly minted twenty-dollar gold pieces from the express car, $1,300 in cash from the passengers, and four gold watches. After dividing the loot, the bandits decided to go in pairs in different directions. Within a few weeks, Collins and two others were killed while resisting arrest.

Extremely rare document for the Collins gang. Document reads, in part: "State of Nebraska vs. J. Collins, 22nd day of September 1877 for the crime of robbery, has been committed in the County of Cheyenne and that J. Collins & Eight others (names unknown) committed the same." Measures approximately 8.5" x 7".

Fine, a couple of small pieces missing at top.
