    Description

DIAMOND GUM - CHIEF BENDER. Catalogued in the A.C.C. as PE2, pins from issue known as "Diamond Gum" are painfully rare.  Their point of manufacture is unknown and, for that matter, it's uncertain how many different players were produced. (However, over the past several years, there have been no additions to the 29-subject checklist.)  Because the length of a "set" (as if one exists) is short, most of the players were luminaries when the issue was released.  Among them was the eventual Hall of Fame mound ace, Chief Bender, whose pin is now presented.  This one is magnificent in every respect.  The image is well-centered with respect to the pin's perimeter; it includes the frequently-missing paper insert in the reverse, and it is virtually without any surface blemish.  Ultimately, NM.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
