Clarence Darrow: Celebrated Labor Cases. Four items personally-owned by Darrow which passed to his widow Ruby, great-aunt of the consignor. 1) 9.5" x 7" glossy photo by Estey of San Francisco showing Darrow and party in an open touring car. Caption on verso indicates the occasion was a Labor Day Parade [1912] with Darrow "as guest of honor after the McNamara's had plead guilty & C.D. was on trial". 1 1/4" repaired tear on top. The participants wear ribbons, badges, buttons and hold pennants. 2) 9.25" x 6.75" glossy photo showing Darrow and others leaving courtroom in San Francisco, taken at the same time as the first photo. 3) 5.25" x 7.5" 80-page booklet published in 1900 titled "The Woodworkers' Conspiracy Case" by Clarence S. Darrow. The State of Wisconsin prosecuted three men on charges of conspiracy arising out of a woodworker's strike in Oshkosh. Title page detached, some internal chipping and loss to wood-pulp paper pages. Intact and decent overall. 4) 6" x 9" custom-bound booklet (purple manila covers) comprising "Chapter 90" of a book of speeches and arguments of Clarence Darrow along with excerpts of testimony, mostly concerning the miner's strike of 1902 in Colorado and Big Bill Haywood's involvement.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
