    Civil War Era Theater. Three Boston Theatre Playbills Featuring the Hernandez Ravel Troupe, 1863. 1) 5 1/8" x 17.25" playbill for the April 2, 1863 appearance of the Hernandez Ravel Troupe in various dancing roles and in the pantomime "The Golden Egg" at the Boston Theatre. 2) 5. 25" x 17.25" playbill for the April 6, 1863 appearance of the Hernandez Ravel Troupe in various dances, gymnastics, and performing in "The Golden Egg" at the Boston Theatre. 3) 5" x 17.5" playbill for the April 15, 1863 appearance of the Hernandez Ravel Troupe in various entertainments, including the comic pantomime "Robert & Bertrand" at the Boston Theatre. The playbills were printed in Boston by F.A. Searle. Playbill #1 has a slight tear on the top left corner that has been repaired by tape on the reverse side without affecting text. All the playbills have shadows of glue residue on the top and bottom corners.
    The Hernandez Ravel Troupe was headed by A. M. Hernandez, who played numerous musical instruments and performed as a mime. The troupe entertained audiences with tight-rope walking, tricks, gymnastic exercises, and pantomime.
