    Civil War Era Theater. Three 1863 Playbills Featuring Maggie Mitchell, a Romantic Partner of John Wilkes Booth. 1) 5.25" x 17.5" playbill for a February 26, [1863] appearance by Maggie Mitchell as Fanchon in "Fanchon the Cricket" at the Howard Athenaeum in Boston. 2) 5" x 16.75" playbill for a December 3, 1863 appearance of Mitchell as Fanchon in "Fanchon the Cricket" at the Boston Theatre. 3) 5.25" x 16.75" playbill for a December 26, [1863] appearances of Mitchell as Marie, the "Pearl" in "The Pearl of Savoy" and as Fanchon in "Fanchon the Cricket" at the Boston Theatre. Maggie Mitchell (1832-1918) was a successful American actress whose many admirers included John Wilkes Booth and Abraham Lincoln. "Fanchon the Cricket" was her most famous and popular role from 1861 through the 1880s. She obtained the rights to the play, which brought her financial success. She was one of John Wilkes Booth's many romantic partners, with talk of marriage at one point. All three playbills were printed in Boston by F.A. Searle.
