    Civil War Era Theater. Five Boston Theatre Playbills Featuring Daniel E. Bandmann, 1864. 1) 5.25" x 17" playbill for the February 3, 1864 appearance of Bandmann as Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice" at the Boston Theatre. 2) 5 1/8" x 17.25" playbill for February 10, 1864 appearance of Bandmann as Narcisse in "Narcisse or the Last of the Pompadour" at the Boston Theatre. 3) 5.25" x 17.5" playbill for the February 17, 1864 appearance of Bandmann as Iago in "Othello" at the Boston Theatre. 4) 5" x 18.25" playbill for the February 24, 1864 appearance of Bandmann in the title role of "Hamlet" in the Boston Theatre. 5) 5.25" x 18.5" playbill for the February 27, 1864 appearance of Bandmann in the title role of 'Richelieu" at the Boston Theatre. The playbills were printed in Boston by F.A. Searle.

    Daniel E. Bandmann (1837-1905) was a German-American actor who was known for his roles in Shakespearian plays. After he retired in he took up ranching in Montana. His book, An Actor's Tour: or, Seventy Thousand Miles with Shakespeare, was published in 1885.
