Charles Pettit Autograph Letter Signed "Chas. Pettit". Two pages, 7.75" x 10", New York, December 27, 1785, written from Congress and franked by him to John Nicholson, Comptroller General, Philadelphia. It reads in part: "The Civil list of the State runs higher than I had supposed, but I believe it is not higher than the facts will warrant except in the article of the pay of Delegates which I imagine will fall rather below the estimate." Pettit served as a delegate from Pennsylvania to the Continental Congress from 1785 to 1787. The letter has been mounted to a backing sheet with an engraved portrait of Pettit. An old catalog citation for the letter has been affixed to the third integral page. With the usual fold creases, one small area of loss corresponding to the wax seal, else very good condition. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.
