Miguel Cervantes Oversized Broadside Announcing the Establishment of General Commissioners Throughout Mexico. Elephant folio, 16.75" x 33" (made up of three adhered sheets). Mexico, June 7, 1831. A top, "MIGUEL CERVANTES / General de brigada y Gobernador del Distrito federal" and printed in two columns. By order of President Anastasio Bustamante, the broadside announces: "There will be general commissioners in the following districts: Chiapas, Chihuahua including the territory of New Mexico, Coahuila y Tejas, Durango, Guanajuato, Mexico with the Federal District..." The district that includes Coahuila y Tejas is assigned one commissioner, two treasury accountants, one official, one scribe, and one money counter.

Issued during Bustamante's first term in office, the establishment of these commissioners was an attempt to establish offices of the treasury for the collection of duties and taxes and the distribution of public funds. Bustamante's policies immediately found opposition, especially in Texas, and a revolt broke out in Veracruz the following year.

    Not listed in Streeter.

Condition: Clean bright paper, with light ghosting on top sheet. Creasing along top and side margins, affecting some text. Two small notations in pencil by a previous collector.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
