    Two copies of the Ebenezer Baptist Church funeral program, titled "Obsequies. A fourteen-page booklet, with a three-page biography of King followed by a chronology of his leadership. There is a breakdown of the funeral, which occurred that morning and was officiated by Ralph Abernathy, King's closest friend and advisor. Following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 4, 1968, memorials were held across the country in recognition of the famed civil rights leader's life and work. On April 9, 1968, Ebenezer Baptist Church (King's home church where he was co-pastor with his father) in Atlanta, Georgia, held King's funeral and a series of memorials.

    The two examples offered here are different issues printed on two types of paper with some differences in the content. It is not possible to determine which came first, but both were issued contemporaneously to the memorial service.

Jan 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968 A Great American Rev. Martin Luther King".

    Beyond Vietnam Printed Speech
    8.75" x 9.75", 12 pages
    Palo Alto, California; 1967

    Published by Altoan Press, a speech given by Martin Luther King, Jr. at Riverside Church in New York on April 4, 1967. In the speech, King condemns the Vietnam War for its negative effects on both the American and Vietnamese lower classes. King believed that the United States should be making immediate steps to stopping the war and withdrawing from Vietnam with no further violence.

    A baked enamel on aluminum sign, with a blue background and white text. There are two holes drilled on each vertical edge.

    Condition: The sign and license plate show signs of wear and rust. The memorial pamphlets have varying degrees of toning with minor wear. The printed Vietnam speech is in very good condition. The buttons have varying degrees of wear and rust. Else good.
