    Eldridge Cleaver FBI Wanted Posters (2).

    Two wanted posters issued by the FBI for the arrest of Cleaver. According to the posters, Cleaver was accused of "Interstate Flight - Assault with Intent to Commit Murder". His various aliases are listed, along with a physical description and the warning that he "allegedly has engaged police officers in gun battle in the past. Consider armed and extremely dangerous." With mugshots taken from 1966 and 1968. The smaller poster, dated December 18, 1968, also includes Cleaver's fingerprints.

    Eldridge Cleaver (1935-1998) was a writer, political activist, and later Minister of Information of the Black Panther Party. In 1968, he was also a presidential candidate, running on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket. Following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Cleaver led a group of Black Panthers in an ambush on Oakland police officers. A shootout ensued, in which two officers and Cleaver were wounded and a 17-year-old Black Panther member was killed. Cleaver was subsequently charged with attempted murder and fled to Cuba.

    Condition: Both posters have flattened folds. The smaller poster has light toning around the edges. The larger poster has a few spots of soiling along with small tears at the top edge and a torn hole at the bottom center margin.
