    Dick Gregory 1968 Political Poster.
    22" x 29" (55.88 x 73.66 cm)
    No place; [1968]

A political campaign poster for Dick Gregory for President and Mark Lane for Vice President; featuring a large white and blue portrait of Gregory and urging people to "Write In For President Dick Gregory".

Dick Gregory was the write-in candidate for the Freedom and Peace Party. Gregory was an unusual candidate as he was a comedian as well as an activist and social critic. Not only was he a strong supporter of the Civil Rights movement (having marched with Dr. King in Selma), but he also spoke out against the Warren Commission and apartheid in South Africa. Gregory was also a supporter of the growing feminist movement. He ended up gaining a little over 47,000 votes and ultimately lost to Richard Nixon.

Condition: Light wear and soiling at edges, else very good.
