    Broadside: Reward for Runaway Slave.

    Matted and framed: 17.5" x 15"
    Harpers Ferry, Virginia; June 8, 1835

    This broadside, issued by Jonathan Kearsley, offers a One Hundred and Fifty Dollar reward for the apprehension of a Negro by the name of Robert, who escaped on June 5, 1835. Robert's age "29 years of age", appearance "not very black", and other distinguishing marks are listed. The reward of $150 will be given if is caught in Pennsylvania, or $100 or $50 if they are apprehended in Maryland or Virginia respectively. Information concerning the runaway slave is to be directed to Isaac N. Carter of Charlestown, Virginia. Isaac Carter was Kearsley's son-in-law, having married Ann Kearsley, nine years previously. Carter owned the Carter Hotel in Charlestown.

    Condition: Uniform toning, with minor paper loss at the upper left corner. Else good.
