Black Panthers: A call for a People's Assembly to free the Panthers - NOW! Broadside.
    16.5" x 22.75"
    New York; May 1, 1970

Issued by Youth Against War & Fascism. With the large printed words, "SEIZE THE TIME". The text of the poster is in support of the New Haven Panthers, and calls for the People's Assembly to occupy the city to promote anti-racism. The text is printed over the image of a raised fist, the symbol of Black Power.

This poster was likely made for the demonstration and student strike that took place at Yale University. There was a large demonstration in New Haven, and Yale students went on strike to show solidarity with the Black Panthers. Much of the protesting revolved around the arrest and trial of Bobby Seale, who had been charged with the murder of Alex Rackley. Rackley, an ex-Panther, had confessed under torture to being an informant for the Chicago police. It is still debated as to whether Rackley had been an informant or not. It was argued that Seale ordered George Sams Jr. to kill Rackley, although the defense claimed that Sams was a psychopath and had killed Rackley of his own volition. Ultimately, the jury could not reach a verdict, and the case against Seale was dropped.

Condition: Toned throughout with flattened folds. The paper is brittle with chipping along the lower right corner. There is a long separating/tear down the top right margin.
