DescriptionBaxter's Philadelphia Fire Zouaves Recruitment Broadside "No Compromise With Traitors, No Argument But the Cannon's Mouth". Stone lithography. Measuring approximately 22 x 31 ½-inches, printed by King & Baird, Philadelphia, circa late 1861. Shown above the recruiting particulars is a determined Zouave on the cusp of skewering a fallen rebel soldier. Excellent content in bold type throughout. De Witt Clinton Baxter's Fire Zouaves were incorporated into the 72nd Pennsylvania Volunteers - the Philadelphia Brigade - and served with distinction from the Peninsula Campaign through Petersburg, mustering out in August, 1864.
Condition: Very good. Uniformly toned with some damp staining along the edges and a darker stain near the bottom center. Closed tears along the edges repaired with archival tape.
