Angela Yvonne Davis FBI Wanted Poster.
    10.5" x 15.75"
    Washington, D.C.; August 18, 1970

A wanted poster issued by the FBI for the arrest of Davis. Davis is accused of "Interstate Flight - Murder - Kidnapping", with the alias "Tamu". There are two separate mugshots used, one from 1969 and one from 1970. A physical description of Davis is listed, and the poster goes on to caution "Angela Davis is wanted on kidnapping and murder charges growing out of an abduction and shooting in Marin County, California, on August 7, 1970. She allegedly has purchased several guns in the past. Consider possibly armed and dangerous."

Angela Yvonne Davis was charged with these crimes due to her involvement in the events of August 7, 1970, which resulted in the death of Judge Harold Haley. Three black men, known as the Soledad Brothers, were being tried in Marin County courthouse when 17-year-old Jonathan Jackson entered the courtroom, armed the three inmates, and kidnapped Judge Haley. A shootout occurred during the men's escape, and Haley was killed. Davis had been a supporter of the Soledad Brothers, and had helped to purchase some of the firearms that Jackson used. Because of this, a warrant for her arrest was issued and she was placed on the FBI's Ten most Wanted Fugitive List. She was the third woman to have been put on the list. Davis was eventually caught and tried, but the jury ultimately found her not guilty.

Condition: Flattened folds, with light toning at the edges. There are small holes and tears at the top edge. There is a faint stamp mark or ink transference at the edge of Davis' 1969 mugshot, else good.
