Description[Revolutionary War]. Samuel Freeman Broadside: State of Massachusetts-Bay. In the House of Representatives, January 25, 1777. [Boston: Printed by Benjamin Edes, 1777.] One page, 9" x 13.75", signed in print "Samuel Freeman" as speaker pro tem and "John Avery" as deputy secretary. This "true copy" is a call to arms for fifteen Massachusetts battalions "to serve during the War, or for the Term of Three years." Age toned with some stains. A complete vertical separation exists down the central fold. Other folds are also weak, though not separated. Fragile.
The act reads in part: "The Perseverance of Britain in her Attempts to subjugate the Free States of America to an unconditional Submission to their arbitrary Impositions, demands a Perseverance in the Inhabitants of these States, to frustrate the barbarous Design. For this End the Supreme Council of the Continent, convinced of the fatal Impolicy of short Inlistments, have called for Eighty-Eight Battalions, to serve during the War, or for the Term of Three years, and for Fifteen of them from Massachusetts-Bay. The Necessity and Wisdom of the Measure, must meet the Approbation of every Friend to his country. . . . And whereas it is the Judgment of this Court, that a Number amounting to One Seventh Part of all the Male Inhabitants, from Sixteen Years old and upwards, at home and abroad belonging to this State, will compleat our Quota of the Continental Army. . . . save the People called Quakers."

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
