The decree was issued on May 23, 1835, and the broadside offered here was issued on May 28, 1835.

    More Information:

Although Mexico had secured her independence from Spain in 1821, Spain continued to attempt to reconquer Mexico for years to come. The Battle of Pueblo Viejo (which took place on September 10 and 11, 1829) would mark the end of their attempts. It was Santa Anna's troops that dealt the final blow when his forces defeated General Barradas. However, the timing of this decree had more to do with politics. Acting president Miguel Barragán had just succeeded Santa Anna as president 5 months prior to this decree.
