    Description

[1857 Texas Legislature Election]. Printed Circular Regarding the Legislative Position of Candidate Claiborne C. Herbert on Banking in Texas. Both sides of a single sheet, printed in two columns; 7.5" x 24"; La Grange, 1857. The circular is an exchange of letters between Fred Tate, a candidate for state legislature, and Shropshire and J.T. Holman. Tate takes the opportunity to state his position as remaining constant, and in favor of legislation to protect the interest of the people; in contrast to Herbert, who is not even willing to commit to stating his views in writing. Herbert went on to beat Tate, and served until 1859. Listed in Winkler, entry 891; listing one copy.

Condition: Flattened folds, with light toning. Paper added at one corner in lower margin, well away from any text. Small repair to tear adding paper at top, with a few additional tiny tears. Pencil notation and ink notation by a previous collector.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
