Broadside: "To the Voters of Texas" signed in type by State Treasurer Cyrus H. Randolph. One page, 10.5" x 15.5", July 21, 1860, Austin. An earnest appeal for reelection as Texas state treasurer, in part: "Two years ago I had the honor of being elected to the Office of State Treasurer, by the almost unanimous vote of the people of Texas. On the first day of November, 1858, I was inducted into office, since which time I have not been absent from the post of duty a single day, (Sundays excepted). . . . As no special charges of mismanagement or dereliction of duty have been made against me up to this time I trust at this late date there will be none. If there should be, however, I hope you will do me the justice to regard them as the production of political hucksters. . . . Politically, I am of the Democratic Party, of which, I have been always a member since arriving . . . . I believe that party to be the party of the Constitution, upholding and striving to guarantee equal rights to each and every State in the Union, as well as the rights of every freeman in each State. I believe it to be the great party of the people-the hope of freemen everywhere. In the approaching Presidential election I shall support John C. Breckinridge and Joseph Lane, believing them to be eminently sound and national on all the great issues of the day. . . . should I be re-elected to the position I now occupy, I promise you to discharge, with fidelity, the duties imposed upon me. Should another be selected in my stead, I will bow cheerfully to the will of the majority./ Respectfully, Your Obed't Serv't, CYRUS H. RANDOLPH."

Attorney Cyrus Halbert Randolph (1817-1889), a member of the 1843 Snively expedition, served Texas as government official, legislator, chief justice, and sheriff. He was elected state treasurer in 1858. The appeal made through this broadside helped him win election a second time. He finally left the office in 1865. This very nice display piece has some tears along the edges which have been mended on verso, and a few pinholes along the left edge. Fine.
