BOXED SUBSET R316. In 1929, there appeared a freestanding series of 25-card picture packs. There were four of these series, and each of them guaranteed a picture of Babe Ruth (the only image common to all four). The A.C.C. identifies these as R316, and they were produced by Kashin Publications. Each of the four series was marketed in windowed boxes, which were color-coded. The backs of the boxes conveniently itemize the checklists for each of the four series. The one offered here is provided in the "canary" colored box, and sure enough, its enclosed 25 cards exactly mirror that checklist. So for the purist, we present this 25-card subset of R316. They measure 3 ½ x 4 ½" and include Ruth, Ott, Grimes, Terry, Paul Waner, Maranville, Traynor, Hafey et al. The cards are categorically EX/MT with minor corner wear, and the box is VG. None of the issue’s four rarities are included, and these, we surmise, were later emergency substitutes. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
