Boston Corbett: Manuscript Material. Nice group of items related to the man who shot and killed John Wilkes Booth, that slightly deranged individual, Boston Corbett. It includes a rather unusual CDV of Corbett wearing a private's jacket, resting his arm on an American flag, against a studio backdrop of the U.S.S. Monitor (some light spotting not affecting portrait), a 3 ¼" x 2" calling card autographed "Boston Corbett" on the front (ink stain affecting middle portion) and, on the back, "But God commandeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5th Cht 8th Verse" (perimeter abrasions touched up, with some tracing over of letters in the last line), plus a clipped signature inscribed "Boston Corbett Late Co L 16th N.Y. Cavalry" accompanied by a Charles Hamilton Letter of Authenticity.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
