    Description

BABE RUTH MINI BAT. The "Century of Progress" was again celebrated in Chicago in 1934.  Myriad concessions were sold and, naturally, most have since perished.  From that extravaganza, now 70 years distant, there remains this mini bat. It is a varnished hardwood measuring 16".  A Louisville Slugger (model 40) stamping properly appears (however, somewhat faintly).  Further on the barrel, and in perfectly legible gold stamp, the bat bears the event, "World's Fair Chicago: 1934," and Ruth's simulated autograph.  The bat is still in NM/MT condition with not a blemish to be found.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
