DescriptionArchbishop Nicolas Carlos Gómez de Cervantes Confirmation Document Signed. Fifty-plus pages of varying sizes, n.p., February 1728. Sewn binding. Leaves are age toned with strong ink bleed through; most exhibit chipping along edges. Very good condition.
During the first ten days of February, 1728, Archbishop Nicolas Carlos Gómez de Cervantes visited the parochial church at Linares and the Hacienda San Andrés of Agustín Garza Romo, to celebrate the sacrament of confirmation. While there, he assisted in confirming 854 people, each of whom is listed here, along with the names of his or her parents and godparents. An incredible genealogical treasure signed by Cervantes, who was instrumental in the early Texas cattle industry, because as bishop he had complete control of the tithing of cattle to the church. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
