Description
A State of Texas Bond Signed by Gov. Throckmorton and First National Bank of Houston $5 Bill. The $1000 bond is a one page, 14.25" x 17", Austin; January 1, 1867. A scarce bond, No. 47, stating that it is "Indebted to the University Fund of the State of Texas." With all twenty-four $25 coupons present. Signed by Governor J.W. Throckmorton, who served in that office from 1866-67. Countersigned by U.H. Royston as Treasurer. With flattened folds and light edge soiling.The accompanying First National Bank of Houston $5 Bill measures 7.5" x 3.25", Houston; February 17, 1906. With a blue plain back seal and Charter No. 1644. With a portrait of Benjamin Harrison. The bill has folds and creasing throughout. Wear and soiling throughout. The First National Bank of Houston opened in 1866 and remained open and printing money until 1933. All proceeds to benefit educational programs at The Bryan Museum.
