1957 TOPPS TED WILLIAMS. In 1957, the vast majority of kids who pushed a lawn mower also collected baseball cards. Of those, nearly all have lost their accumulations through some unhappy explanation. And for the meager few collections that now remain, card number one invariably took the brunt of "admiration." Little wonder then, that ‘number one’ in ‘57 Topps is especially popular today when it can be garnered in reasonably decent shape. Topps put the bellows to the flame on this issue though. How cruel! It seems a premeditated act of malice that the card introducing this production had to be Ted. For many of our readers, comfort is at hand. The one offered here is admirable, having earned PSA’s mark of EXMT 6. Minor wear appears at the bottom corners, and its centering is mildly shifted toward the top. Still, a very worthy addition to a quality collection

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
