1924 OLYMPICS PIN. The purpose of this handsome pin from the 1924 Paris Olympics is unknown.  Its reverse bears a threaded post (with its original nut), but it is serial numbered "7699."  As only about 3000 athletes attended and about a thousand in the media corps, we can only imagine that possibly the numbering continued from previous Olympiads.  Nevertheless, this was an event of enduring significance.  Unexpectedly, a British sprinter named Harold Abrahams won the 100 meter sprint which, many years later, inspired the popular film "Chariots of Fire."  America's hero was Johnny Weissmuller who captured three golds in swimming events, thus paving the route to his Hollywood career as Tarzan.
