    Description

1909 PITTSBURGH PIRATES "PIN". The piece is magnificently NM.  Measuring 2 1/4" in diameter, it projects the cameo portraits of 19 players from the World Champion 1909 Pittsburgh Nationals.  Included in these visually articulate images are Vic Willis, Fred Clarke, and of course, that of Wagner identifies immediately.  The manufacturer appears to be an outfit called Cruver.  Rather than a pin back however, this one has a mirror on the reverse - much like that of a lady's compact.  (This surface, like the front, is without blemish.)  Nice piece - for the incurable Pirate fan.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
