1876 Kit Carson, Jr. Wild West Show Playbill. 6" x 12" playbill for an April 12, 1876 performance in New Hartford, Connecticut by "Kit Carson, Jr." at the Academy Hall. Carson is billed as "The Texan Ranger and Indian Hunter [who] Will Deliver His Lecture on the Black Hills". His troupe included White Cloud and six other Native Americans who would recreate Indian Ceremonies. It concludes by saying: "Ladies and Children Come and See the 'Pappoose'". We believe Kit Carson, Jr. was one of eight children resulting from Christopher "Kit" Carson's third and final marriage. Junior worked in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, but parted ways in 1875 to form his own company. The year 1876 marked the incursion by whites in the Indian territory in the Black Hills, seeking mineral wealth. Custer would be killed two months after the performance advertised on this playbill which touts "that El Dorado of the Sioux Country, the Yellowstone Canon and Big Horn River..." Some loss and separation at folds. Fairly delicate.
