    Description

1776 Revolutionary War Enlistment Document: Nine Rhode Island Soldiers Agree to Serve "as soldiers in Ye Pay of the Colony of Rhode Island for the Preservation of the Liberties of America." Two pages on single leaf, 8" x 13", signed at Newport, RI, April 28, 1776. From April through May 28th, nine men signed the document, and again on the reverse side acknowledging receipt of a four-pound advance on their pay. The men agreed to "Enlistment for one year...and (they) Promise to Submit our selves to all the Regulations of the Army and Faithfully to observe and obey all Such orders as We shall Receive from time to time from our officers." Fold separations repaired with archival tissue, moderately toned, overall very good condition. An uncommon document with wonderful Revolutionary War flavor.
