[William Penn]. Two Period Fair Copies of Land Deeds Referencing William Penn and the Colony of Pennsylvania. The first, three pages (verso only), measures 12.5" x 15.5", [England], dated February 7, 1681, represents the purchase of two thousand acres of land by William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, from William and Abraham Lloyd. More significantly, the document makes references to the founding of Pennsylvania, which reads in part, "all that tract or part of Land in America . . . bounded on the East by Delaware River . . . and hath erected the said Tract of Land into a Province . . . by the [illegible] of Pennsylvania in Order to the Establishing of a Colony and plantation in the same." It also mentions King Charles' "Letters Patent under their Great Seale of England bearing Date the fourth Day of March (the date Pennsylvania was granted to Penn)."

The second document, one page, 12.5" x 15.5", [England], February 6, 1681, concerns the same sale of two thousand acres as the above, for the sum of £500. Both documents show some separation of the folds, the latter of which is detached along the main horizontal fold. The pages of the former are bound at the upper edge with string and show areas of light soiling and staining.
