[Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson Estate]. An Archive of Documents Relating to a Lawsuit Brought by Mary Anne Jackson Against the Surviving Partners of the Lexington Tannery. A total of 17 documents from the years 1863 through 1872, including legal filings, summonses, and ledger pages. The earliest document is from August 1863, and is the response of Jacob Fuller; which suggests that the complaint was filed shortly after Jackson's death on May 10, 1863. Jackson's widow, Mary Anne Jackson is listed as the "Adminitratrix" of the Estate; and the complaint alleges that "an unwarrantable conversion of the funds of the Lexington Tannery to the use of the Goshen Co., in violation of Law and the rights of the Lexington Tan. Company... solely for the benefits of the Goshen Tannery, at the expense of the former..." Several filings include listings of payments made to individuals named in the suit. The ledger pages are labeled as evidence and show the accounts of both companies during the years 1862 and 1863. The lawsuit was further complicated by the deflation of Confederate currency, and the ledger pages include columns to illustrate "scaled" value of the monies paid. J.T.L Preston, G.W. Shields, and William Gillam are also defendants in the suit.

Condition: Page size varies, but the majority are on tall folio, approximately 8" x 12.5". All have flattened folds and toning. One small document dated September 15, 1870 has a few tiny tears at edges, and darker toning; but overall condition is very good to near fine.
