"The Custer Mining & Realty Company" Promotional Booklet. Pueblo, CO.: The Company, 1902. Small octavo, 6.5" x 5". 23 pages plus 8 leaves of plates. Printed wraps, string bound. Includes description of the mines and property and includes the Articles of Incorporation. Very fine save for one corner crease on front cover.

"Near Querida, well within Custer County, a new town named Custer City was founded. Viewed in retrospect, the whole enterprise seems to have been started on speculation of the most spurious sort. Although two mine shafts were dug, no ore was ever shipped from Custer City. The entire setup was a stock deal and came dangerously close to being a hoax. Nevertheless, a fairly ambitious town plat was laid out and public relations were undertaken to attract people. A community water system, with three-quarter-inch pipes laid under the ground, was installed. At strategic spots in the meadow, fire hydrants protruded along the streets-to-be. At the east end of town there was a ball diamond for interested parties. The Custer Mining and Realty Company opened an office in town. They were also responsible for the two mines that, hopefully, would justify the town's existence. As a crowning touch, a fine statue of General Custer, with sword in hand, was installed in the fenced town park." (Robert L. Brown, Ghost Towns of the Colorado Rockies, page 116)
