    [Texas Revolution]. Broadside: Presidential Decree Honoring Officers in the Mexican Army Including Those Who Served in Texas in 1836. Single sheet, 13" x 17". At top: "El C. Luis Gonzaga Vieyra, Coronel retirado y Gobernador del Departamento de Mexico." (Colonel Luis Gonzago Vieyra Retired Colonel an Governor of the State of Mexico.) A decree issued by then president Anastasio Bustamante in the National Palace on August 28, 1840, and the broadside offered here is the printing of said decree in the State of Mexico on April 7, 1841.

    The decree contains 15 articles, each one in accordance to rank and engagement. Articles 1 through four relate to Texas. Article 1 states that all general, commanders and officials that engaged in combat in Texas in the defense of maintaining the integrity of the national territory will receive a cross of honor to be worn on the chest on the left side. The cross will hang from a ribbon that is green in the center, with red on either side. Article two states that the cross is to be made of gold with white enamel. The front will be engraved: "Texas 1836", and the back will read: "He fought to maintain the integrity of the national territory." Article 3 states that sergeants who served in Texas will receive a medal in the form of a coat of arms to be worn on the left arm. Said medal will be similarly engraved.

    Printed in two columns with broad margins and signed in type by Luis Gonzaga Vieyra and Jose Maria Barrera as Secretary.

    Condition: Gently toned, with a single horizontal fold; some light creasing occurring at top left . On the verso in period ink is written, "premio military." A previous collector has written an X on the left margin next to the articles related to Texas.
