    [Slavery]. Six Documents Related to the Brock Family of Duplin County, North Carolina. Includes three bills of sale for slaves, accompanied by three other Brock family documents. All are dated between 1815 and 1844. Documents are toned with weakness at some folds. Two additional unrelated documents from Duplin County are also included.

    More Information:

    The six documents include:

    (1) Bill of sale dated November 25, 1815, for a "Negro man named Isaac", selling for $475;

    (2) Bill of sale dated December 2, 1822, for "one Negro woman about thirty one years of age named Hannagh and her increase and also one negro woman named fillez about fifty years of age", both selling for $450;

    (3) Bill of sale dated February 8, 1837, stating that "I the sd. Lewis Brock doth freely give to my Daughter Cela Mercer one Certin [sic] Negro girl named Exoline";

    (4) Dower dated August 8, 1840, and listing specific "provisions" for Mrs. Elizabeth Brock, wife of Lewis Brock;

    (5) Document dated May 15, 1844, concerning the "division of the notes of the late deceased Elizabeth Brock";

    (6) List of the "Ages of the Children of Lewis Brock By his wife Elizabeth Brock."

    The two unrelated documents:

    (1) A survey document dated July 15, 1876, for land in "Smith's Township Duplin County N.C."

    (2) An affidavit dated November 1, 1864, swearing to birthdays and ages of members of the Sanderson family of Duplin County.
