    [Sam Houston]. A List of Titles Issued by George Nixon, Commissioner for the Colonies of Burnet, Vehlein, and Zavala, in 1834 & 1835. 4to, sixteen printed pages, removed from a larger work, "An Abstract of the Original Titles of Record in the General Land Office," representing pages 113 through 127. Information provided includes the name of the grantee (listed alphabetically), the date the title was issued, the quantity of land given (in leagues and labors), where the land is situated, and additional remarks. The last page gives names of grantees in Vehlein's Colony, but only up to "Matthew Hurbert." The edges of the pages are heavily damaged. Each page shows moderate to heavy toning and waterstaining from the upper edge.

    Several persons of note are included on the list, among them, Sam Houston, who received title to ¼ league of land "On the W. side of Sand Bayou" on May 5, 1835, and Thomas Jefferson Rusk, who received one league of land which "Joins Crawford, Burnet, and Reed " on November 5, 1835.

    George Antonio Nixon was the land commissioner for the Galveston Bay and Texas Land Company, which sold land on the empresario grants of David G. Burnet, Joseph Vehlein, and Lorenzo de Zavala. He served in this capacity from July 1834 to November 1835, when the land office was closed by the provisional government of Texas.
