    Description

    [Republic of Texas]. San Augustine County Oath of Residency. One partially-printed light-blue page, 8" x 10", San Augustine County, Texas, April 4, 1839. The printed text of this form was intended for use as a Second Class Head Right certificate. It is amended to read that the signer, Amos Harris swears that he was "a resident Citizen of Texas previous to this date and that I intend remaining permanently in the country; that I am a single man and consider myself justly entitled [the following text has been crossed out: under the act providing for Emigrants previous to the first of October 1837] to three hundred seventy acres of Land." With several signatures; docketed on the reverse. A Second Class Head Right would have entitled the bearer to 640 acres as a single man.

    Condition: Flattened folds and a few creases thereat; stray foxing. Otherwise near fine.
