    [Newspaper]. Panamint News. Vol. I, No. 47. Eight integral pages, 10" x 13.25", Panamint [California], March 23, 1875. The town of Panamint, the remnants of which are now located within the boundaries of Death Valley National Park, was a boom town established after the discovery of silver in 1873. The town consisted of 200 houses, a bank, brewery, saloons, a hotel, a bank, the newspaper office, and a post office. It is estimated that at its height, the population of Panamint was somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000. This edition includes an article on the front page titled "Our Early History" which has been bracketed in blue; an article debating which is more profitable, gold or silver mines, on page three; local mining news; a story of the family of Mormon Brigham Young and two of his wives, who were sisters; a $500 reward "for the arrest of Edward P. Welch, under conviction for the murder of Frank Moore"; and others. Period ads scattered throughout. Vertical fold is weakened and detaching; horizontal folds also weak and detaching in places. Evenly toned. Pencil notation on front page.
