    Description

[Mexican Invasions of 1842]. Public Debt of the Late Republic of Texas Certificate Issued to William Menifee. Partly printed single sheet, 10.25" x 10". Austin, February 13, 1854. A 2d Class "B" certificate issued to Menifee to validate a claim for "Beaves furnished for troops under General Davis in 1842 amounting to Thirty Six Dollars." Sam Houston had requested aid from the United States in response to the Mexican forays into San Antonio. Adjutant General James Davis was sent to organize volunteers in Corpus Christi. After a minor skirmish in June 1842, Mexican forces retreated to Mexico; and unable to pass funding to invade Mexico, Davis' troops were disbanded. From the Robert E. Davis Collection.
Condition: Gently toned, with bright paper and uneven margins. Small repairs on verso to a vertical fold, with some showthrough on recto. Tiny tear at right margin, and previous dealer's notations in pencil at top.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
