[Maximilian Affair]. Estanislao Hoyos Autograph Letter Signed. Two pages with integral address cover, 8.5" x 10.6". Monclova; February 14 and 15, 1866. Writing to Don Jesus de la Garza, Hoyos provides a detailed update of troop movements as well as political intrigue in the battle against the French. In part: "on the 9th Viesca left Sauceda for Parras with the forces he recruited here, that Naranjo was till in Villadama on the 11th with advances in Salinas... the French that were at Saltillo have left for Monterrey, leaving some men to form a garrison... Latest newspapers we have seen say that 6000 men are being prepared to march to the borders, and there is complaining about the help that the American officials in Brownsville gave to the forces going to Matamoros..."

Estanislao Hoyos served as representative from Coahuila in Congress after the overthrow of French rule.
