[Martin Luther King Jr.]. Two Typed Letters Signed from B. T. George to Dr. King. The first, one page, 7" x 9.25", Shreveport [Louisiana], December 23, 1956, was sent to Dr. King just three days after the 13 month boycott of the segregated buses of Montgomery was officially ended, Professor George suggests that "there's one more vital fact that you should look into . . . In a district or (districts) predominantly inhabited by Negroes . . . all drivers thereof should be of the Negro race." He then directs King upon receiving the letter to "act accordingly unless colored people are already operating said buses."

The following day, King received a second letter from Dr. George, this time regarding the firing of a shotgun into the King home on December 22: "Do not let the shot that was fired into your home a few hours before this writing deter you in the execution of your routine. If God is for you or on your side, who can be against you? . . . If it is the Divine plan that you come home to Glory in this 'Boycotting' situation, you'll leave this unfriendly earth a MARTYR for - 50,000,00 [sic] Negroes at Montgomery." This final letter shows some foxing and staining. The text is faded, but still legible. From the Maude Ballou Civil Rights Papers.
