    Fold-out engraved map of South America by Guillaume de Lisle (1675-1726) measuring 13.5 x 17.125 inches, now fully mounted to cardboard. A few small areas of paper loss within the image area: one at the eastern coastline of the lower California peninsula, and three small holes within the letters "N" and "O" of "Nova Mexico." Also, a few areas of professional repair/restoration along the center horizontal fold within the image area, and at the lower right margin, this restoration outside the image area. A couple of small spots of foxing. Paper evenly toned. In very good condition.

    "Map of South America. Cartographic elements include lines of latitude and longitude, location of rivers, native American tribes, settlements, and some topographical details. Decorative cartouches include native Americans wearing feathered headdresses and garments, tusks, alligator or anteater, snake, packages, shield, turtle, goat, llama, birds, bows, and arrows" (John Carter Brown Library catalog online, Brown University).
