    [Lincoln County War]: Peter Maxwell Autograph Letter Signed and Map. Peter Maxwell as a close friend of William Bonney, a.k.a. "Billy the Kid". He was in the same room as the Kid when Pat Garrett (with whom he had previously conversed) entered the darkened room and killed the young outlaw. 1) 1 p. ALS, Fort Sumner, New Mexico, March 25, 1881, written on 7.75" x 9.75" lined paper, to Mssrs. Browne & Manzanares, forwarding requested letters and signed "Peter Maxwell". Some smudging affecting Maxwell's first name, normal folds with very minor separation. 2) 15.5" x 17" engraved map on tissue-like paper, titled: "Map of the Beaubien and Miranda or Maxwell Grant in Colorado and New Mexico Patented May 19th 1879." Published in 1893 based on "Plats in the Surveyor General's Office" and "private Surveys by the Maxwell Land Grant Company." Excellent condition.
