    [John Steinbeck]. Archive of Ephemera Relating to Steinbeck's Nobel Prize for Literature. A group of documents, newspaper clippings, letters, invitations, etc. connected with John Steinbeck's Nobel prize, which was presented to him on December 10, 1962. The award was given to Steinbeck "for his realistic and imaginative writings, combining as they do sympathetic humour and keep social perception." The lot includes an October 25, 1962 letter from Nils K. Ståhle, the Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation that notifies Steinbeck of being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. There are numerous programs from the December 10th ceremony with dinner and event invitations relating to the Nobel Foundation. There are welcome cards from representatives in Stockholm, along with a letter of welcome from Georg Svensson, addressed to Elaine Steinbeck. There is a letter, dated November 6, 1962, from American Ambassador J. Graham Parsons to John Steinbeck. Multiple newspaper articles about Steinbeck.

    Condition: Varying degrees of creasing, wear and soiling. Toning to the newspaper articles. Overall fine.
