    [John Hancock's Rules and Articles for the Better Government of the Troops Raised]. The Pennsylvania Packet, October 1, 1776. Four pages, 10.5" x 17", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; October 1, 1776. The Pennsylvania Packet Vol. V, Numb. 258, printed by John Dunlap. Features an article printing the "RULES and ARTICLES for the better government of the Troops raised, or to be raised and kept in pay by and at the expence of the United States of America, In CONGRESS, September 20, 1776, RESOLVED." The original printing of these acts occurred in 1775 and read: " be raised, and kept in pay by and at the joint Expence of the Twelve united English Colonies of North- America." This revised printing reflects the Continental Congress's change of the United States from colonies to independent country.

    Condition: Slight edgewear with minor chipping. Tape repair to one corner. Gently foxed and soiled with some light toning along margins.
