    [Indian Troubles] and [Confederate Guerillas]. Home Front Letter. Four integral pages, 8" x 10", Nebraska City, August 21, 1864, regarding troubles with local Indians and Confederate guerillas from Missouri, in part as written: "The people west of us are having trouble some times with the Indians companys are being raised all over the country west of the Missouri Gen [Samuel R.] Curtis came up on the boat the other morning with six cannon and I do not know how many soldiers beside one or two companys of cavalry by land . . . women and children are comming in every day from the west a great may have been killed it is supposed yes known that the indians are led by white men reble ruffians mostly from Missouri there is no probability of the Indians troubling us but many think there is danger of the Guerillas comming into the northern counties of Missouri perhaps as far north as this and taking all valuable property lives too if resistence is made."
